Throughout the ages and all around the world, trees have been imbued with mystical characteristics that embody the archetypal motif of creation.  The tree as a symbol for knowledge and life, connecting the heavens and the underworld is prevalent in various religious texts and philosophical treatises.  In contemporary times, the tree is closely aligned with healthy cities and communities, providing shelter for various forms of earthlings, whilst soothing the hard edges of urban life. Jess spoke with Ian Mckenzie from the Institute of Australian Consulting Arboriculturists about the importance of trees in urban spaces and the up-coming ‘Trees for Liveable Cities’ forum in Sydney.
