Integrating Technology with Primary Maths
1 + 1, 2 + 2…primary school is the beginning of many people’s understanding of numeracy and traditionally, it’s been taught with paper and a pencil. With the technology of today, young children are being encouraged to use tools like smart boards and apps to enhance their learning, like with mathematics. This is partly in response to a societal demand for governments to invest more in closing the existing gap between the school and home technology experience.
Catherine Attard is an Associate Professor in Mathematics Education from Western Sydney University and she spoke to Nic about how technology can improve the primary school learning environment, particularly in mathematics.
