The parliamentary inquiry into how Rio Tinto was able to destroy two caves at Juukan Gorge in May of 2020 finished last week.
The final report, entitled ‘A Way Forward’, detailed how the mining company was able to destroy the site, as well as making a series of legislative recommendations to empower traditional land owners.
While these kinds of protections are overdue, there has been some criticism leveled at the report for its potential impact on Australia’s mining industry.
