Keeping a green thumb when the weather’s in the red
Did you know that plants can get sunburnt just like we do? We’re told to slip, slop and slap, but what can we do to relieve or prevent sun damage in plants? And do the weather changes – one day we’re reaching unbe-leaf-ably hot temperatures and the next it’s cool or even raining – affect a plant’s growth cycle?
“Plants suffer from heat in many ways like we do,” says horticulturalist, writer and broadcaster Helen Young. She talked to Nic about ways we can protect our gardens from the summer heat.
