Ken Grose – Record Collector and Archivist
Ken Grose has, for the last four decades, been collecting records (that is, those [predominantly] black discs you put on a turntable/record player in order to hear music).
Some years ago he happened to notice that the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia’s documentation of Australian popular music was not only incomplete – it was also wildly inaccuracate. And so Ken took it upon himself to compile the definitive discography of Australian popular music.
2SER’s Dom Romeo calmed down just about long enough to talk to Ken Grose about this mammoth undertaking, and Ken’s own obsession with records. Ken discusses the project – which manifested over thousands pages after four years of work; the need to make the archive searchable; and the gaps in the catalogue that other keen archivists might consider filling.
The list can be found at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia.
