The lack of data around youth homelessness

On any given night, more than 100,000 Australians are homeless with more than one third of those being between the ages of 12 and 25.

Melissa Kang from the Faculty of Health at the University of Technology Sydney co-authored a study looking at the medical records of young homeless people who presented to 2 youth services in Western Sydney over the past 12 months.

And Melissa says although we have an equipped understanding of why youth become homeless, the data around their physical and mental wellbeing continues to fall through the cracks.
