Last Quokka’s Fur-ocious New Album

Hanging out all by itself on the coast of Western Australia is one of the countries most remote capital cities, Perth.
Hence, it might be the case that it’s often forgotten about due to the densely populated Eastern seaboard where Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne all yell over each other in close proximity.
So not to be left out of the commotion, Perth has spawned some of the land’s great rock bands of the last 50 years with seminal outfits and well loved exports such as: The Scientists, The Stems, The Drones and Karnivool all flying the flag for the Black Swan.
Now time has come that we can safely add Last Quokka to that list as well.

Seven years in as a band and now five records deep, Last Quokka have been rustling feathers with their anarchic driven garage rock, by tackling the adverse issues that hold us back as a nation while simultaneously embracing their inner larrikin-ism of taking the mickey out of it. Listening through to this record, it’s hard not to get caught up in the political activism that Last Quokka unleash through their blistering punk tunes, and that’s why they’ve become a boisterous staple of Perth’s music scene, hand in hand with their easily relatable themes of solidarity that fit the context of every major city of Australia.

Vocalist Trent Rojahn put aside some to have a chat on The Band Next Door on 2SER to talk about the things the band is fighting for, rather than fighting against. Awareness of the true state of the world and how Macaulay Culkin fits into the picture..

Red Dirt by Last Quokka is out now through Stock Records on the West Coast and Tuff Cuff Records on the East Coast.
