Law and Emotion: A Misunderstood Relation

Whether or not you’ve been subjected to the law first hand, I think you would agree it’s important to see our justice system being fair and reasonable. When it comes to impartiality, we often think it’s devoid of emotion – but in actual fact it’s been written into some of our laws, making confronting it in a court room unavoidable.
So how do we maintain a sense of impartiality? What role does and should emotion play in the law?
These are all questions explored in a public lecture next week with expert speakers. The chair of this function – Associate Professor Kate Rossmanith – joined Tuesday Daily to discuss.
