#LetUsSpeak Fights for Sexual Assault Survivors
A Victorian law change that came into effect in February introduced a requirement for victims of sexual assault to seek permission from the court before going public, if charges were pending or if there had been a conviction. Now, the state is seeking to introduce amendments before the end of 2020 to “urgently” fix the legislation. This latest development is largely due to the work of the #LetUsSpeak campaign, the creator of which said survivors who want to self-identify in the media should not be gagged against their wishes. The Daily was joined by the very journalist behind this campaign, Nina Funnell.
