Linda Sok: ‘Reincarnations of an Altar Cloth’

‘Reincarnations of an Altar Cloth’ is the latest solo exhibition by Cambodian-Australian artist Linda Sok, opening this Saturday at the Campbelltown Arts Centre. Part of her ongoing series ‘Deities in Temples’, it delves into the matrilineally handed down practice of Pidan, a poly-chromatic weft silk weaving tradition that faced near erasure due to the targeted persecution of weavers during the Cambodian Khmer Rouge Regime. She engages with decolonial practices and methodologies to reclaim fragments of her Cambodian heritage by presenting a re-imagining of lost, stolen, collected, and destroyed silk weavings, connecting to and reclaiming her lost heritage.

Linda joined Rupert on Tuesday Drive to discuss how these elements are interwoven to create this body of work.

Artist Talks with Linda Sok on Saturday 29th May at 4pm.
