Is there a link between gaming and gambling?
Last week, Nick Xenophon called for certain games such as, Counter Strike, to be defined in law as gambling.
It’s a bold statement and could be a world first if it were to happen when he introduces a bill into parliament in a few weeks time.
The call came as a result of the rise in micro transactions present in video games. Some of these items that young gamers can pay for are randomised – they could get something rare or something quite common.
Larissa Hjorth, Professor of Mobile Media and Games spoke to Sam about Nick Xenophon’s proposal.
