The Living Dream of D’harawal Knowledge

Australia is home to an Indigenous culture that spans back through time for over 50,000 years. For thousands of years, Indigenous Australians have survived in the Australian landscape by utilising their intricate knowledge of the land. This knowledge has been passed down through the generations. The southwest of Sydney is D’harawal Country, which is home to the D’harawal clan.

Shannon Foster is an artist, educator, and Saltwater Knowledge Keeper of D’harawal people who has dedicated her professional life to the teachings of her family stories and D’harawal knowledge. Shannon Foster chatted with Nic about the D’harawal knowledge and culture and how her work — and her PhD “The Living Dreaming” — is keeping alive for the new generation.
