‘Living Museums’ Breathing New Life into History
Museums play a key role in preserving aspects of history and keeping them safe from the ravages of time – without them, we would lack the perspective on history we have now.
However, on display these artifacts and objects lack the life they once had. Removed from their contexts they are merely an indication of what might have gone on in days past.
The Melbourne Museum has been changing this recently, by allowing members of the Aboriginal Community to properly preserve, display and even use artifacts from their culture, breathing new life into key facets of our country’s’ history.
Today we were joined by Myles Russel-Cook, lecturer in Indigenous Studies at Swinburne University of Technology, for what rising trend means for the future of artifact preservation.
