Lobbyist Registers Shrouded in Secrecy, research shows

Advocates and academics are calling for greater regulation and transparency when it comes to lobbying.

Current public lobbyist registers reveal little information as to who’s lobbying who, and how often, leaving experts concerned about undue influence, and the risk of misconduct and corruption.

Public health researchers are among those concerned, with worries the influence of big industries like tobacco, alcohol, and gambling could cause government to prioritise business interests over health and human rights.
