Lowering the Threshold for Student Load Repayments by $12 000

The Federal Government has continued its efforts to recover student debt repayments from the Higher Education Loan Programme, with Treasurer Scott Morrison and Education Minister Simon Birmingham lending support to a Grattan Institute report that proposes lowering the repayment threshold by $12,000. This comes just months after the passage of legislation targeting student loan debtees abroad. The Grattan Institute’s higher education senior associate Ittima Cherastidtham co-authored the report, and 2SER producer Darius Sawyer spoke with her earlier.
