Machine Learning and Shark Spotting

Sharks present an ever-present risk to Australian beach-goers. With the growing controversy surrounding shark-nets & drum lines, authorities are looking for more passive alternatives to protect the public. Dr. Cormac Purcell, Program Director at Trillium Industries and former professional astrophysicist at Macquarie University has joined forces with New South Wales Surf Life Saving and the Department of Primary Industries to develop a program to use Artificial Intelligence and drones to spot sharks from the sky.
