Making Airwaves! Kirsty Wing speaks about her radio show
People with physical and mental abilities are often shunned from the limelight. You don’t see them on tv or in films and they are often overlooked when applying for jobs. This is despite their many skills, capabilities and enthusiasm.
The Windgap foundation is designed to increase the skills and opportunities of those suffering from mental and physical disabilities to give them a greater chance in the workforce. The recent ‘Making Airwaves’ program was designed for radio – allowing people to be heard in a medium they are often neglected in. The hosts talk about bullying and stigmas, but there is also a lot of laughter and fun, and of course great music. ‘Making Airwaves’ has progressed from a ‘project’ to a legitimate, entertaining, and structured radio show.
Kirsty Wing is the sister of Rugby League great Craig Wing and has Down Syndrome. She broadcasted recently as part of the program and joined me alongside Caroline Savransky in the studio yesterday to talk about it. Have a listen!
