What’s in a date? A rose’ on any other day would taste just as sweet.
While the ever-present controversy about Australia Day celebrations heats up before January 26th, Kerry Neale from the Australian War memorial sheds some light on a different Australia Day: 30th July 1915. This forgotten fundraising effort from the home front to support the World War I soldier, started as grassroots campaign and became a national event, all back when January 26 was called Foundation Day and only celebrated in New South Wales.
