Marriage Equality Debate Still Divides Western Sydney
Australia’s marriage equality vote may have taken place in 2017 but that doesn’t mean the impacts of the debate aren’t still being felt.
The ‘Home Is Where Our Story Begins’ report was produced by ACON, NSW LGBTIQ Domestic and Family Violence Interagency and Western Sydney University and shed light on the impacts the marriage equality debate continues to have for culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds from Western Sydney.
The report discovered that more than half of respondents said disclosure of them being queer affected their relationship with their family negatively and forty per cent had experienced family or domestic violence as a result of their gender or sexual identity.
2SER’s Breakfast Presenter Alex James discussed the report with Eloise Layard from ACON.
