Mass Tourism and its Impact on this Year’s Hottest Tourism Destinations
Last week, Venice held its breath as the out of control MSC Opera Cruise Ship collided with a smaller cruise and a dock. The crash has since sparked debate about mass tourism, and in particular, large cruise ship’s impact on the environment and the small, historical and sensitive destinations they stop at.
We spoke to Freya Higgins-Desbiolles, Senior Lecturer in Tourism Management at the University of South Australia, about mass tourism and its detrimental effect on popular destinations.
