Meet your Eurovision Judge: Dr Steven Capaldo
Australia has been invited back to participate in Eurovision, one of the longest running international TV Song competitions in the world. While the show might remain a drinking game for some, it has moved beyond to become something far more serious.
Chair of the Australian Eurovision Jury Dr. Steven Capaldo joined the show to give us some unique insights into the inner workings of the Eurovision contest and just how Australia fits into the Europe part of the equation.
Each country’s performance is judged by other countries’ juries, and every part of the performance is judged, from the lyrics to the chorus to the performance itself. The audience is also able to vote on each performance, and there can be quite a discrepancy between the two results. Juries tend to focus on the technical: the music and the lyrics. The audience tends to vote for entertainment value.
And some good news from the semi-finals: Australia’s own Isaiah Firebrace successfully made it into the grand finals, despite stumbling on a key note in one of his performances!
