All talk no action on North Korea denuclearisation

Washington is encouraging immediate talks with North Korea in a major step to complete denuclearisation by January 2021. Months after historical meetings between the US and North Korea, efforts to denuclearise have completely halted. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has invited North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho to meet in New York next week.

Although the Moon-Kim Summit has made the Korean peninsula safer, fears regarding North Korea’s lack effort to denuclearise remain. Mr Pompeo hope these meetings push North Korea closer to disclosing all missile and nuclear information. The Daily spoke to Dr Bronwen Dalton, lecturer from UTS to discuss this further.
