More than 16,000 reports, 35 convictions: Modern day slavery in Australia

In November, the Federal government appointed former Labor minister Chris Evans as Australia’s first-ever National Anti-Slavery Commissioner.
According to the international human rights organisation Walk Free, 41,000 people live in situations that amount to modern slavery in Australia.
The New South Wales Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Dr James Cockayne, says he welcomes his new federal counterpart.
