Market analysts question Morrison Government’s $600 million gas splash

The Morrison government has said its proposed tax-payer-funded Kurri Kurri gas-fired power plant announced on Wednesday, will fill a gap in the electricity market when the Liddell coal-fired power station closes down in 2023. Energy market experts have criticised the government’s decision to build a 660-watt generator, describing it as unnecessary. They have raised concerns about its potential to deter investments in transitioning the energy grid. We spoke to Bruce Robertson, Energy Finance Analyst at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis.
