Morrison Proposal to Remove Violence from Social Media

The Scott Morrison Government has announced they plan on pushing through new social media laws in the wake of the Christchurch massacre.

The new laws would place greater pressure on social media companies to remove “abhorrent violent material” from their platforms.

With the government rushing through this bill, however, there are concerns that the new laws may too broad and too punitive.

To discuss the government’s proposed legislation, The Daily‘s Julia Carr-Catzel was joined by Robert Merkel, Lecturer of Cyber Security and Systems at Monash University.
