Nabihah Iqbal brings her live show to Sydney for the first time
Nabihah Iqbal‘s second studio album, DREAMER, set her up for the best year of her life so far in 2023.
The record seamlessly weaves together an indie-rock sensibility with a yearning for the club. Written largely with an acoustic guitar and a harmonium, it was a new approach to making electronic music for Iqbal. The album swells in triumphant dancy climaxes then relaxes into dream-like sonic escapes.
We’ve loved DREAMER on 2SER – it ranked 4th in Static’s Listeners’ Favourite Album poll, sits high among our people’s favourite releases, and has been absolutely rinsed across the station since its release in April.
Nabihah Iqbal is back in Australia after a string of DJ sets in June to play her first live shows in the country, including a late night affair at pop-up venue the Moonshine Bar (The Thirsty Mile) for Sydney Festival on 13 January.
She joined Newfangled host Josh Green to talk about the year that was, how she wrote her compelling and deeply affecting album, and what’s ahead in 2024.
