NDIS funding changes for music and art therapy cause for concern

Therapists and NDIS participants have been blindsided by an abrupt decision which is set to change the way music and art therapies are funded.

Currently Music and art therapy is funded through the Capacity Building Improved Daily Living category allowing providers to charge $194 per hour. Under new reforms access to therapies will be through the Community Participation budget of $67.56 an hour or at a group rate of $194 when delivered to at least four participants.

Participants who have these therapies as part of their plan and based on evidence specific to their circumstances can continue at the higher rate.

Experts say recently announced changes will have a major impact, significantly reducing access to music and art therapies for thousands of Australians living with disability.
