The “Netflix Effect” vs Australian Download Speeds

The “Netflix Effect” is a term that’s been thrown around in the Media quite a bit over recent weeks, used to describe the phenomena that Australians are now downloading more than ever.

However, this is a problem, given that the latest AKAMAI rankings give a bleak outlook for our internet speeds.

Back in 2012, Australia was ranked as the 30th fastest internet speeds in the world, the latest findings, here in 2016 rank us at 60th.

Throw this in, with a Government who can’t seem to make up their mind about the NBN and we seem to be in a losing race.

We were joined by Dr Damian Maher, Lecturer in the Arts and Social Sciences at UTS, to talk about this issue.
