New Beginnings Spring Festival

The New Beginning Spring Festival is happening Saturday 16 November down in Darling Harbour. It’s a festival that involves a huge lineup of live music and dance performances, workshops, markets and food stalls, but where most of the artists and performers are refugees or migrants. The festival is organised by Settlement Services International (SSI), a non-profit organisation that assists new refugees and migrants who settle in Australia.

Head down on Saturday to see performances from hip-hop artist L-Fresh The Lion, Australian-Sudanese singer Ajak Kwai, Bankstown Poetry Slam poets, DJ sets and many others. While you’re there – check out of the African Headwrap and Wellness Workshop or try some traditional Syrian cuisine.

2ser spoke to Raphael Brasil from SSI about the event and the importance of uplifting migrant and refugee creatives. You can find out more information about the festival here and see more about SSI’s work here.
