New Diphtheria cases
A new case of Diphtheria in a 6 year old in Northern NSW is the second, but the these are the first cases in Australia this century.
The 6 year old was unvaccinated and the younger child is in intensive care.
It is not clear how the disease was contracted. The DTP vaccine given to children provides good immunity from the bacterial disease.
