New Injectable Medications for High Blood Pressure in Clinical Trials
Approximately 1 in 3 Australian adults has high blood pressure (aka hypertension), and daily tablets have been used to treat this condition for decades. However, many patients have difficulty taking their tablets consistently, and this is problematic because prolonged high blood pressure is associated with several health complications. In light of this, recent clinical trials have looked at injectable agents that may be able to reduce blood pressure for extended periods of time.
Dr Sonali Gnanenthiran — Cardiologist and Research Fellow at the George Institute for Global Health — joined us on The Daily to discuss these new drugs and their implications.
