New Italian PM leads rightist coalition
Italy has moved to the right with the overwhelming support for Giorgia Meloni’s Fratelli Italia (Brothers of Italy) party giving them the numbers to be senior partner in a Right coalition with Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia and the Lega Nord.
The shift follows other EU countries like Sweden, Hungary and Poland toward a more nationalist stance. With Winter on the way, Italy like many other EU countries are facing an energy crisis on top of the continuing COVID epidemic strains and an economic battle with inflation and high debt.
