This week, Melbourne based singer-songwriter Lucie Thorne gives us an advanced listen to her upcoming album ‘Kitty & Frank’. Having previously leaned into folkier soundscapes, Thorne moves in a slightly more dreamy, art-pop direction on these songs that based around the life of 1860s Australian frontier woman Kitty Walsh, and her bandit/bushranger lover Frank Gardiner. ‘Kitty & Frank’ is officially out Friday, July 26th, and you can catch the album launch on Thursday, October 17 at Camelot Lounge.
There’s also Kyle Craft who brings us groove-ladened rock combined with a vintage 70s feel, and a generous shades of glam. Now with a full backing band, there’s growth in not only collaboration but confidence, from an artist acutely aware of his influences, yet creating a sound entirely his own.
And French/Turkish duo Kit Sebastian releases their debut record in ‘Mantra Moderne’, a lively, borderless blend of Euro-pop, Anatolian psych-rock, Brazilian tropicalia and more. Clever songwriting that translates to a strange, spellbinding world, and sits somewhere between Broadcast, Khruangbin, and Vanishing Twin.
