Kicking it off with the best new music this week is the 2SER feature album of the week, “I Am What I’m Waiting For” from New York singer-songwriter Kendra Morris. Fans of Roisin Murphy and Nancy Sinatra will love this new release from Morris, with its smoky soul and RnB vibe which is embedded with a DIY ethos around the fuzzed-out guitars featured across the LP. “I Am What I’m Waiting For” serves as a cathartic release for Morris’ idiosyncratic worldview as she explores ideas of fear and the need for vulnerabilities in a relationship. Through this Morris is able to produce a project which provides both an incredible musical arrangement and an insightful self-portrait of the artist.
Leah Senior has released her fourth LP, “The Music That I Make”, and the Naarm/Melbourne-based songwriter showcases her clear and beautiful vocal performances throughout the tracklist. Senior’s baroque-inspired melodies and acoustic guitars add a unique undertone to the fantastic pop-folk sound we are used to from her previous releases.
Staying in Victoria, we have the new EP “TUB” from five-piece bedroom pop band Muma Ganoush. The four-track release, mastered by Liam “Snowy” Halliwell, is layered with lush guitars, synthesizers and warm vocals creating a feel-good, toe-tapping vibe for their first release since “The Big Beam” in 2020.
Another debut LP to keep an eye on is “Moth” from Ontario-based electronic producer Prince Josh. Blending influences from the worlds of electronica, trip-hop and IDM, Prince Josh showcases his textural and ambient production skills through the swirling synthesizers melodies and reverbed drum breaks, along similar lines as Andy Stott and Boards of Canada.
Fans of Big Thief can rejoice in more new music, as band member Buck Meek has announced the release of his debut solo album “Haunted Mountain”. The Texan singer/songwriter locks into his knack for harmonic earworms and quality songwriting in this LP and features songs rooted in open-air travel and the southern US landscape, as well as more sincere breakup songs. An exciting first release for Buck Meek and we can’t wait for what’s next!
For singles added this week, we have the newest release from Eora/Sydney-based electronic producer 700 Feel with “Familiar Flavours” in anticipation of their upcoming EP in September. We also have new singles from Adored with “Blush”, The Native Cats with “My Risks is Art” and Screensaver with “Drainer”.
