As usual, we have a number of singles and albums being added into the rotation this week. These tracks are all stellar, and ones to really keep an ear out for on the airwaves this week.
Ne Pas Trop Rester Bleue is the fourth album from French singer Laure Briard, and is this week’s 2ser feature album. Translating to ‘don’t stay blue for too long’, this album is full of emotional lyrics sung in both French and English. Originally conceived as an autobiographical story of encounters, this record is a combination of 60’s pop styles, and is a must for fans of Carole King, Fance Gall and Bobby Gentry, and brings their retro sound into the present. Check out the full album write-up here.
If you’re a fan of Buzz Kull. Body Type or Bauhaus, you’ll love the new album Mosaics from Vanessa Worm. Somewhat reminiscent of 80s new wave, this album skillfully immerses listeners in an overlap of the realms of punk, electronica and disco. This is album is a feat for Aertoran solo artist, Vanessa Worm.
We also saw the 8th studio album from Canadian solo artist, Andy Shauf titled Norm. On this soulful record, Shauf actually played every instrument involved on the album, and this is all topped off by his trademark falsetto vocals. This is an album full of gentle melodies and arrangements, and is perfect for a relaxing afternoon.
If you were a fan of Scattered Order, this new compilation titled Elbow Room in Paradise is a compilation of the solo work of Scattered Order member, Patrick Gibson who passed away in 2019. This compilation is full of shimmering emotive ambient pieces, which give way to score-like tonality and lo-fi rhythmic compositions. This is being released digitally and on cassette, with all proceeds being donated to Lifehouse.
Heading back to Australian waters, we were graced with the hot new debut album from Baby Cool, called Earthlings on the Road to Self-Love. This album is an amalgamation of psychedelic pop and indie rock, as well as drawing from the 60s druggy aesthetic. With notable use of phasers and flange on the guitars, there is somewhat of a trippy album, with lyrics focusing highly on the need for self-care. For all fans of the Lazy Eyes, Cat Power and Workhorse, this is one you do not want to miss.
If you’re an indie rock fan, you’re sure to love the seventeenth album by the New Jersey group, Yo La Tengo. Their new album, This Stupid world is a solid indie rock album with meditations on the passing of time and the defiance of it. It holds a steady momentum and hooks listeners from the get-go.
As well as all these notable albums, we also had a number of singles added into rotation this week.
There was a point in time when everybody had the track Youth by Daughter in their playlists. UK Duo, Daughter have put out their newest single, Party, ahead of their album that is coming out later this year. This track is stellar and will remind you of the pure magic that is Daughter.
We also had some singles put out across Australia, with multiple new singles being added from Aussie artists. We had the new hazy single, Breathe from the duo, Deuce ahead of their album release in April. There was also a new anthem-like track called Lessons Learnt from Melbourne four-piece, Floodlights, who also have a new album being released in April.
If you’re familiar with the band Grazer, you would probably already know that there is a new single from Oceans, which features members from Grazer. This shoegaze 5 piece dropped their newest track Soft, which is one to keep an eye out for this week.
Heading ultra-local up the coast, there was also the hottest new track titled Twin Cowboy from Illawarra-based alt-country six-piece, MFV. This track is one that drips with mood and explores themes of environmental collapse. If you liked this track, be sure to keep your ear out for their EP that is being released soon!
