There are so many amazing new releases this week that we’re starting to lose count! Kicking it off we have the 2SER Feature Album of the Week, “Club Hits” by R.M.F.C. The long-awaited debut LP from Sydney-based written, recorded and mixed by drummer/frontman Buz Clatworthy lives up to its name, delivering hit after hit showcasing their signature jangly guitar tones and hypnotic rock grooves. The record provides a uniquely bright and angular approach to post-punk placing a key emphasis on vibrant hooks and its lo-fi production which adds the perfect textural layer across the record. Recorded in between Burrill Lakes and Sydney and mastered by Mike Young, it’s a fantastic debut LP from the Rock Music Fan Club!
Just when you think you’re out, they pull you back in… the prolific Naarm six-piece King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard are back for their 25th studio album “The Silver Cord”. Taking a sharp left turn in sound as per usual, the band leans heavily into synthesized sounds for the instrumentation, incorporating drum machines and vocoders to shift the angle towards vintage electronic rock. The sound design throughout this record shows to be the biggest development in sound, with brash squelches, space-age ambience and atmosphere and a consistent pulse of electronic drums and white noise percussion. Recorded by frontman Stu Mackenzie in May and July 2023 the album is available in an extended version as well, with tracks reaching as long as twenty minutes.
Looking back locally, Sydney-based guitarist, composer and videographer D.C. Cross releases his fourth solo album “Wizrad”, following up on the 2020 LP “Terabithian”. Previously performing as a part of famed 90s electronic outfit Gerling, D.C. Cross pulls influence from classic Americana-style folk guitar in the vein of Muddy Waters, Doc Watson and the Tacoma Records sound of the 1950’s. From this there is a unique Australian spin on the arrangement of the tracks making this another amazing release coming out of the Sydney scene.
Dublin-based artist Naoise Roo delivers her second album to date, “Emotionally Magnificent”, a pulsing introspective art-pop record layered in unique DIY textural layers recorded in studio. The record tackles issues faced by women in the music industry, covering themes surrounding depression, watching people you love fall out of the industry and oppressive stereotypes that burden women’s mental health across the music industry. Recorded in collaboration with Daniel Fox (Gilla Band), Rian Trench (Solar Bears) and Karl Tobin, the record’s instrumentation lays the foundation for Naoise’s voice to sit centre stage and share her story throughout the carefully crafted tracks.
Ana Frango Elétrico has returned with her new LP “Me Chama De Gato Que Eu Sou Sua“, the latest full-length project since 2020’s “Little Electric Chicken Heart”. The Rio De Janeiro-based singer/songwriter crafts beautifully produced disco, soul and boogie on this record with vocal performances delivered in a combination of Portuguese and English and pays tribute to the classic sounds of 1980’s Brazilian boogie style.
Finally don’t miss out on the incredible local singles coming across your airwaves this week from the likes of Mannequin Radio, Mildlife, Platonic Sex and more!!!
