New Music with Steph Liong
There’s a lot of new music after Supporter Drive, but Steph has the goods here to keep you informed.
Neneh Cherry, who is back with her fifth solo album, Broken Politics, staying strong after 40 years of crossing genre lines. The new album may sound softer than her past album, but that doesn’t mean it strays away from big topics like the refugee crisis, gun violence and feminism. You’ll be able to see Neneh Cherry during Sydney Festival at Carriageworks in January.
Next up is Sydney punk quartet Straight Arrows, returning to the studio having turned in some heavy hours touring, including a 5-show day on King St this past month. Their new album On Top is a high energy, psychadelic garage-punk with a fun, upbeat vibe. You’ll be able to catch their album launch on November 10th at Marrickville Bowling Club.
Finally we have the 7th release from Cookin’ on 3 Burners; Live Experiments Volume 2. Their previous ‘Live Experiments’ release was one of our feature albums last year, and this release strikes some slick grooves between a variety of instrumentals that stretches from deep funk, raw soul and jazz.
