New Music with Steph Liong

Kicking off Monday morning with the last New Music review for the year!

Starting off with singer-songwriter Natasha Jacobs and her brainchild Thelma. Her new track “Take me to Orlando” was written while recovering from surgery after being diagnosed with EDS,  also taking inspiration from Virginia Woolf’s “Orlando”. Her forthcoming album The Only Thing is due out in February 2019.

Then onto the new album American Love Call by Durand Jones and the Indications. While they’re yet to release the full album, this first track is grooves galore, with a mix of soul influence and 70s references shining through. Take a listen to “Don’t you know”.

Ending on a local note with Sydney trio Gauci. Their sound includes big vision synth pop with a post punk new wave feel to it, referring to themselves as “like Neapolitan ice-cream, but more punk”. Taking you through to 2019, this one’s called “Paradise”.
