New Music with Steph Liong

Kicking off another Monday morning with more new music.

First out the gate is Strand of Oaks, the moniker of songwriter and producer Timothy Showalter. In his 6th album Eraserland he teams up with Jason Isbell and the majority of My Morning Jacket as his backing band, asserting the message of death to ego and rebirth to anything or anyone you want to be. This one’s called “Moon Landing”.

Moving on to London based band Ibibio Sound Machine with their 3rd album Doko Mien. The group is fronted by Eno Williams, who credits her Nigerian heritage and folk stories from her childhood as the inspiration for this album. With a boisterous fusion of funk, Afro-beat disco, electronica and soul, this track is “Wanna Come Down”.

Finishing off with Adelaide based Fair Maiden and their 2nd album Oleander. Taking it’s name after the poisonous tree, lead Ellen Carey has likened it to a slow death, with the sound of it’s Gothic country folk twang. Take a listen to “Coal”.
