New Music with Steph Liong

A brand new Monday with some brand new music with Steph Liong.

First up, we have Lump, formed by new duo Laura Marling and Mike Lindsay. They come from opposite sides of the folk spectrum, with Laura bringing her traditional indie folk stylings to Mike’s experimental composition. The result is stirring and sometimes weird, but it works, providing an atmospheric sound that skirts peripheral minimalist ambience. Take a listen to ‘May I Be the Light’ from their self-titled album which is out now.

If you are after something stronger to start your day, veteran rockers, Shepparton Airplane, have just released their second album Almurta. The album is filled with an in your face wall of sound that has an energetic, raw pulse but still leaves you with a warm feeling. Check out ‘Like You’ for a taste of their frenetic, no-nonsense rhythm and punky gnarl.

Finally, US Producer, JD Walsh has released his second album as Shy Layers. The new album, Midnight Marker, is a chilled out and fun collection of songs. He blends a range of genres, from funk and Ethio-Jazz to highlife and creates a brilliant groove throughout, as is demonstrated in ‘Gateway’.
