New research: iron infusion during pregnancy can reduce anemia

A new trial has found iron infusion on the third trimester of pregnancy can considerably reduce anemia.

WEHI’s Medical Research trial involved iron infusion in pregnant women in Malawi, giving promising results to combat anemia and improve maternal health at a low cost.

Across the world, 37 percent of pregnancies are anaemic, and in Australia, the percentage is around 25 percent.

The Wire’s Eduardo Jordan asked Lab Head at the WEHI Medical Research Professor Sant-Rayn Pasricha the aims of the research.
