New Youth Koori Court in Surry Hills

A groundbreaking initiative designed to break the cycle of crime for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders has been extended to a second Sydney location.

Known as the Youth Koori Court program, it aims to tackle the causes of crime before they become entrenched, and give young offenders the tools they need to improve their lives.

The extension of the program to Surry Hills’ Children Court last week has been heralded as a significant step forward in addressing the major problem of overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youths in the criminal justice system.
