NIMAs – the 20th anniversary celebrations

Two decades since its inception, the National Indigenous Music Awards have helped launch the careers of some of the most significant voices and extraordinary music makers in Australia today.

Celebrating 20 years of great music and fantastic artists, the award night is set for Saturday 10 August, to be held under the stars on Larrakia Country,  in Darwin’s historic Amphitheatre.  This year’s finalists have been announced.
Music has been pouring out of First Nations artists across the last year… from Emma Donovan and BARKAA, to The Kid Laroi  and Dan Sultan, Jessica Mauboy and emerging artists like the 8-piece funk band out of Arnhemland – Andrew Gurruwiwi Band who are up for ‘New Talent of the Year’.

The Daily’s Beth Hopkins spoke with the current Creative Director, Iwaidja, Malak Malak and Badu Island man Ben Graetz.

Broadcast on NITV from 8pm on Saturday night, 10 August. Tickets are onsale for the live event. All details on the NIMA website.
