Not so lucky with Jamila Rizvi

We’ve banned the word bossy, is it now time to ban the word luck? Commentator Jamila Rizvi spoke with Nic about how women are more likely than men to attribute their success to external factors such as luck. On the other hand, men attribute their failures to bad luck, whereas women internalise it. Society can use luck to downplay their success, but women do as well. Discussing why women do and say things that put themselves, and sometimes other women, down, Rizvi says, “if you grow up in a gendered world, you behave in a gendered way”.

Jamila Rizvi is in conversation with Wendy Harmer at The School of Life on the 12th of July.
