NRA versus Australia
America’s National Rifle Association have released a video on YouTube which launched a campaign against Australia’s gun laws over the weekend. It says that when when people talk about Australia, they’re talking about “bans and confiscations.”
While supporters of the NRA agree the laws are too strict in Australia, detractors have cited the dramatic drop in gun violence following former prime minister John Howard’s buyback scheme in 1996.
Aaron Jones, a member of the Marconi Clay Target Club, joined Sam to discuss the polarising message behind the video. Sam began by asking what the reaction to a buyback scheme in the US would be, given one Youtube commentor said it wouldn’t happen without a bloodbath.
