NSW Premier Mike Baird backs Victorian counterpart’s call to resettle asylum seekers
NSW Premier Mike Baird has backed his Victorian counterpart’s call to resettle asylum seekers instead of sending them back to Nauru.
Victorian Labor premier Daniel Andrews wrote to the Prime Minister offering to “accept full responsibility” for asylum seekers who face a return to Nauru following last week’s High Court decision.
The High Court upheld the legality of detaining asylum seekers indefinitely on foreign shores, clearing the way for 267 asylum seekers to return to Nauru.
