Opal card system leaves homeless on the outskirts
Our public transport system has now converted to ‘paperless’. In New South Wales, the opal card has become our ‘one and only’ means of getting around. While it suits the convenience of a ‘majority’ of commuters, does it leave many of our transient and homeless citizens, on the outskirts of the system? Julie Mitchell manages Wollongong Homeless hub. Her work is centred around providing charity assistance for the transient, homeless and disadvantaged and she told Nic that the Opal card was already likely to cause issues.
