Operation Posidonia To The Rescue

There’s no time like the present to use our community privilege and help restore the marine habitats we all depend on.

Seagrass meadows are severely under threat, declining at a staggering rate of one soccer field every half hour.

Often confused for seaweed, it is important to understand that seagrass is essential for fish to live and our ecosystem to thrive.

Next Saturday, Australia’s fishing conservation charity OzFish Unlimited, together with UNSW Sydney researchers, are officially launching ‘Operation Posidonia’ to restore a seagrass meadow in Lake Macquarie.

Project leaders are now calling community members for help, welcoming them to join them on their journey to restore a rapidly declining habitat.

Project Manager for Coastal NSW, Angus Fanning, joined The Daily.
