The pay gap in the Women’s AFL League

Over the weekend two women’s AFL teams went head to head in an exhibition match at Whitton Oval in Melbourne. The TV ratings for the Saturday night game attracted the highest number of viewers for any Saturday night AFL match this year. This comes just months before the launch of a national AFL women’s league. Despite the viewing numbers, in negotiations about their pay female players will be getting paid far less than their male counterparts.
