PIAC – Tackling Unfair Embedded Networks
With energy bills rising, most of us take it for granted that we can switch to a different supplier with a better deal if there’s one available.
However, some people don’t have this option because they live in a home within an ‘embedded network’. Instead, they’re locked into a deal that’s often more expensive, with an energy supplier they didn’t choose.
Consumer groups like the Public Interest Advocacy Centre say embedded networks don’t just take away choice – they can also place an increased strain on people who are already financially vulnerable, including renters and people in retirement villages.
PIAC Policy Officer Alana West joined 2SER Breakfast to tell us more about embedded networks and to let us know why we should be concerned.
